We are seeking a hardworking, friendly, and reliable Shop Assistant to join our grocery store team. In this role, you will be the backbone of our daily operations, ensuring that customers have a pleasant shopping experience and that our shelves are well-stocked, organized, and inviting. Whether you are assisting customers with finding items, managing inventory, or maintaining a clean and orderly store environment, your contribution is vital to the efficiency and success of our neighborhood shop. Key Responsibilities
Customer Assistance: Greet customers warmly, assist them in locating products, answer questions about inventory or pricing, and provide friendly service to ensure repeat visits.
Stocking & Inventory: Efficiently restock shelves and display areas as products sell. Monitor inventory levels and inform the manager when items are running low.
Merchandising & Organization: Ensure all products are neatly arranged, front-faced (pulled to the front of the shelf), and that price labels are clear and accurate. Maintain an orderly appearance in all aisles.
Quality Control (FIFO): Practice the "First-In, First-Out" method by rotating stock to ensure freshness and removing expired or damaged items from shelves promptly.
Store Maintenance: Keep the shop clean and safe by regularly sweeping, dusting, and wiping down counters and display racks. Ensure the checkout and entrance areas are tidy.
Cashier Support: Assist at the checkout counter during busy hours, processing payments accurately, bagging groceries with care, and handling cash or digital transactions.
Administrative Support: Help with receiving incoming shipments, verifying delivery slips against received stock, and preparing items for store placement.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in retail, grocery, or customer service is a plus, but not required if you are a fast learner with a positive attitude.
Technical Skills:
Ability to use a basic POS (Point of Sale) system or electronic cash register.
Basic math skills for handling cash, change, and inventory counts.
Ability to read labels, expiration dates, and follow organizational systems.
Personal Attributes:
Reliability: A consistent and punctual team member who can be trusted to manage shop tasks effectively.
Customer-Centric: A friendly, approachable, and patient attitude toward all customers.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift, carry, and stack grocery items as needed.
